HOME : CD DUPLICATION : SHAPED CD

Using mould and die-cut technology, custom shaped CDs can be produced in almost any type of shape. Most shaped CDs hold from 40mb to 180mb; the capacity varying with the shape of the CD. Only your imagination can limit the shapes that you create. Providing the shape is geometrically balanced and two or more points on the disc fall along the 8cm and 12cm diameter of the CD, it should spin correctly in the CDROM drive. Examples of shapes used by previous clients include: heart shaped, triangle, star and square shapes. Sometimes the CD business card and the 8cm mini CD are classed as shaped CDs.

It is important to note that shaped CDs can only be used in tray loading drives and are not recommended for car CD players or any slot drives. Also, they do not meet the Phillips/Sony standards and should carry a disclaimer in the event they are not compatible with a CD drive. It is not uncommon for some shaped CDs to vibrate in the drive and may require a few attempts before the data loads. Turnaround times will also be slightly longer than standard replicated CD or DVDs: approx three weeks. Those issues aside, shaped CDROMs are perfect for direct mail, new product launches and special promotions.
