HOME : DVD DUPLICATION : DVD VIDEO

DVDs have replaced the VHS cassette as the published home entertainment format. But DVD Video has not only had an impact on the entertainment industry but also the corporate world. Businesses use DVD for new employee training and safety instruction and in marketing as showreels, kiosk displays and product demos. The standard DVD-5 can hold up to 133 minutes of high quality video and audio. Many longer films which may also boast extra features require a DVD-9. DVD video may have subtitles, parental lock features, copy protection, chapters and multi-channel audio.

Before we can replicate your DVD, you must ensure that the DVD video has been encoded and authored correctly. You cannot place a Quicktime movie onto a DVD and expect it to play in standalone DVD players! Encoding refers to the digitizing of the video and compressing it to the MPEG2 format. DVD players contain a MPEG2 decoder which uncompress the data as you watch. At this stage, you will also determine whether the video will be NTSC or PAL. If you are using a DLT as your master, you can also implement CSS and region codes. When authored, menus and chapter points are created and added to the file structure of the DVD along with the actual video file. There should be an AUDIO_TS and a VIDEO_TS directory on every correctly authored DVD. If you need help with the authoring of your DVD production, give us a call on 0113 244 3550. We cannot stress enough how important it is to ensure you have checked your master thoroughly before submission for replication.
