
Region codes are small bytes of information on a DVD disc which limit playing of the DVD on some DVD players. All DVD players have a region control built in. In theory, a DVD player bought in Region 2 will only play Region 2 DVDs or all region DVDs and will not play Region 1 DVDs. The original intention was to prevent DVDs being sold in different countries before the films were officially released in cinemas in those countries. However, there are several multiregion DVD players on the market which can play DVDs from all regions. Region codes are implemented in the premastering stage of the replication process. Only DLTs can be used as masters for region coded or CSS DVDs. Note that duplicated DVD-Rs are all region DVDs and cannot be region coded. We can replicate region coded DVDs providing that the premastering has been completed to that effect.
