The DVD-R was the first DVD format released that was compatible with a standalone DVD player. This is a non rewriteable format with a capacity of approx 4.37 GB and is compatible with approx 93% of newer standalone DVD players and most DVD-ROMs. All our DVD duplication uses Grade A+ DVD-R media. We cannot guarantee that the DVD-R will work in all players or drives. The DVD-RW is the rewriteable version of the DVD-R.

The DVD+R is compatible with 89% of DVD players and most DVD-ROMs. This media can be used for data and video like the DVD-R. Recent DVD duplicator drives can read and write to both formats. The DVD+RW is the rewriteable version of the DVD+R.

The DVD-RAM, developed by Panasonic, can be written and rewritten over 100,000 times and has a data life of over 30 years. However, it is not compatible with most DVD players and is used as a removable hard drive.

DVD-R/DVD+R DL (dual layer) - with two recordable dye layers, the capacity of the DVD-R DL is approx 8.54 GB. These two formats are not common because of compatibility problems and the discs are expensive. With the advent of Blu-ray and HD-DVD, these formats may become obsolete.
